About MeMy name is Austin Searfoss. I grew up in a small town in Northwest Ohio, but I currently reside in both Grand Haven and Mount Pleasant, Michigan. I graduated in 2011 from The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Adolescent to Young Adult Integrated Language Arts and English-Teaching Emphasis. I also completed my graduate work at the same institution in 2017 and obtained a Master of Arts in Education degree with an emphasis on reading.
This is my fifth year at Vestaburg High School. I teach English I, English II, and English Lab, and I coach the Forensics team . Prior to Vestaburg, I had a variety of teaching experiences. I did my student teaching at Findlay High School and Van Buren High School in Ohio where I taught English 9, English 10, Advanced English 10, and English 12. After undergrad, I accepted a grant-appointed position where I created and taught a World Seminar Honors course at Kenton Middle School in Kenton, Ohio. I also had the opportunity to observe and teach in elementary schools in South Korea for a month. While I was there, I taught a fifth grade English class. I've also had experience working as a reading tutor, a nanny, and a substitute teacher in Ottawa County, where I spent each day teaching a different class from kindergarten to music to art to AP English. In my spare time, when I'm not teaching, writing lesson plans, or grading essays, I love reading books, writing poetry, drinking tea, going to concerts, kayaking, hiking, adventuring around Michigan, taking pictures, playing tennis, creating art, researching history, and collecting vinyl records and antiques. I'm very excited to be part of this school and community here at Vestaburg. It's going to be a great year. Go Wolverines! |
